Kerry focusing on trade, AIDS, democracy in Africa

WASHINGTON (AP) - Secretary of State John Kerry is headed to sub-Saharan Africa next week to talk about trade, democracy and human rights.

State Department spokeswoman Jen Psaki (SAH'-kee) says Kerry also is planning to discuss U.S. investments in programs for AIDS relief while traveling to Ethiopia, the Democratic Republic of Congo and Angola.

In the Ethiopian capital of Addis Ababa (AD'-ihs AB'-uh-buh), Kerry will attend a fourth round of high-level talks between the U.S. and the African Union to foster security and democracy in the region.

He will also discuss efforts to defeat or neutralize armed groups in the Congo and push for stability in Angola.

Kerry is traveling from April 29 to May 5.
