Fannin County crash kills judge, leaves wife in critical condition

MINERAL BLUFF - A crash in Fannin County has left a magistrate court judge dead and left his wife in critical condition.

According to the Georgia State Patrol, Judge Ronald Newton and his wife Rita were traveling on a motorcycle on Georgia 60 at Hardscrabble Road Sunday afternoon when a Mazda Protégé driven by Larry Eugene Jones traveled into the oncoming lane and struck the motorcycle. Newton and his wife were thrown from the bike.

Newton was killed. His wife was airlifted from the scene to Erlanger Hospital, where she is reportedly in critical conditon..

The crash is being investigated by the SCRT team and members of GSP Post 27.
