Baseball: Dragons hold off Wesleyan

LAWRENCEVILLE -- Jake Franklin and Hanon Price had three hits each to lead Jefferson to an 8-6 win over Wesleyan Wednesday in a battle of Class AA teams in a game played at Georgia Gwinnett College.

The Dragons (17-3) trailed early, rallied to take a lead in the middle innings, and then outscored Wesleyan 3-1 in the later innings to get the win.

Wesleyan led 1-0 after the first inning but Jefferson took a 2-0 lead in the second on a pair of RBI ground outs from Alex Gaba and Trent Sorrells.

The Wolves (9-8) tied the game at 2-2 in the bottom of the second but Jefferson took a 5-2 lead in the fourth inning. Wesleyan again rallied to tie the game with three runs in the bottom of the fourth.

The Dragons got single runs in the fifth, sixth, and seven innings to pull away for the victory.

Christian Hutch and Gaba each had two hits for Jefferson.

Franklin got the win and Max Ford got the save pitching the final two innings.

Jefferson next will play host to Union County on Thursday.
