Trial postponed for ex-Atlanta schools chief

By The Associated Press
ATLANTA - The trial for the ex-Atlanta school superintendent who was indicted in a test cheating and racketeering conspiracy has been postponed until August.

A Fulton County Superior Court judge heard testimony Monday from Beverly Hall's oncologist, who said she's too sick to participate in a trial now. Hall's attorneys have said the cancer she was diagnosed with in 2004 has spread to other parts of her body since then.

In late March, Hall's attorney filed a motion asking a judge to postpone her trial until a doctor cleared her to participate in the defense portion.

In the motion for continuance, a doctor said that Hall would be physically and mentally unable to participate in the trial for between six and eight months while she undergoes treatment.
