GAINESVILLE - A 27 year old Atlanta man has been sentenced to 30 years for a home invasion that happened in Gainesville two years ago, according to a press release from the office of District Attorney Lee Darragh.
Justin Ogletree was tried, convicted and sentenced on Wednesday, just two days after the case was selected and the jury chosen. He faces 17 years in prison for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony and possession of a fire arm by a convicted felon. Previously, Ogletree was convicted of burglary in 2005 and felony family violence in 2007.
In the home invasion case, Matthew Tehonica was forced into his south Gainesville apartment when Ogletree put a gun to his head. Tehonica fought Ogletree and was shot in the process. Tehonica's children were present at the home during the event.
Ogletree claimed alibi in his defense, but none of the people he claimed to be with testified at the trial.
Darragh said in the release that the court's sentence "reflected well the seriousness of the attack on a person and family he had never met before."
