Voters get choice on freezing Ga. income tax rate

By The Associated Press
ATLANTA (AP) Voters will decide whether to freeze Georgia's top marginal income tax rate at the current level of 6 percent.

State lawmakers gave final approval Thursday to a proposed constitutional amendment that would effectively freeze the state's current top marginal income tax rate.

If approved in a statewide vote, the Georgia Constitution would be changed so that state lawmakers could not raise rates above those in place on Jan. 1, 2015. The General Assembly adjourns for the year Thursday, meaning there is virtually no possibility that the top tax rate could rise above 6 percent before next year.
