Tennis: Stephens County sweeps Chestatee

TOCCOA -- Stephens County swept Chestatee with a pair of 3-2 victories in Region 8-AAAA tennis action Wednesday.

The Chestatee boys fell to 5-3, 2-3 in Region 8-AAAA with the loss.

The Indians swept the singles play. Stephens County's Austin Simmons 6-1, 6-1 beat Juan Carrion 6-1, 6-1 at No. 1, while the Indians' Steven Whitworth took a 6-7, 6-3, 6-1 win over Tyler Burgess. Stephens County Faite Chatham 7-6, 6-3 over CHS Barron King.

In doubles, Chestatee's Reed Johnson and Austin Passmore won 4-6, 6-1, 6-1 over Zach Caudell and Will Byrd at No. 1 while Chestatee's Logan Grunenfelder and Ethan Kapiloff won 6-3, 6-3 over Thomas Lowery and Seth Raney.

In the girls match, the Lady Indians also swept the singles to get the victory.

Kailin Huelsman took a 6-3, 6-4 win over Lily Kiang, Sarah Whitworth won 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 over Fernanda Arcaraz, and Emily Smith beat Adasery Orsono 6-1, 6-4.

In doubles, Chestatee's Haley King and Grace Brown won 6-3, 6-0 over Katie Akridge and Sydney Caudell while Chestatee's Carolina Gijon and Melanie Smith won 6-1, 6-2 over Kasey Crunkleton and Lauren Swenson.

The Lady War Eagles also fell to 5-3, 2-3 in Region 8-AAAA.
