Tennis: Chestatee splits with Madison County

By staff
The Chestatee girls picked up a victory, while the Chestatee boys fell to Madison County on Tuesday in Danielsville.

The War Eagles (5-2, 2-2 Region 8-AAAA) suffered a 5-0 loss to last year's state runner-up Madison County Red Raiders at Danielsville Tuesday night. Tyler Burgess fought hard to avoid the team sweep for the War Eagles, but fell 4-6, 6-4, 5-7 to Madison County's Tyler Terrell in the No. 2 singles match.

Meanwhile, with the weight of the team results on her shoulders and all of both team's players and fans gathering to watch, Chestatee's Fernanda Arcaraz maintained her composure and clawed back from down 1-5 in the third set to win 7-5, 5-7, 7-5 at No. 2 singles and secure a 3-2 team victory for the Lady War Eagles (5-2, 2-2).

Chestatee swept the doubles matches, as Haley King and Grace Brown defeated the Lady Red Raiders' Anna Crouse and Kassey Conner 6-3, 6-2 in the No. 1 match and Carolina Gijon and Melanie Smith won the No. 2 match with a 7-6, 6-1 victory over Madison County's Melody Montgomery and Josie McKenzie.

Chestatee will play host to Stephens County on Wednesday.
