Jimmy Owens goes flag-to-flag for Volunteer Speedway win

By Chris Tilley
BULLS GAP, TN - Welcome to Club 29 Jimmy Owens.

Owens, of Newport, TN scored his first victory for Darrell Lanigan's Club 29 Race Cars on Friday night, March 14 during the Old Man's Garage Spring Nationals Series-sanctioned 'Spring Thaw' event at Volunteer Speedway in Bulls Gap, TN.

Owens would drive the Reese Monuments / Edge Services racer to victory lane for the $4,000 payday, his first Spring Nationals Series win. Owens made the 10th different winner in 10 races contested since March of 2013.

Fast qualifier Chris Madden and Owens would bring the 22 car field to the green flag for the start of the 40-lapper. Owens took to the slick racing surface on the high-side and moved into a commanding lead. Madden tucked into second, with Scott Bloomquist, Eric Wells, and Mike Marlar giving. Madden and Bloomquist would put on a classic short track battle throughout the feature, but Bloomquist did not have enough momentum to get around Madden.

Two yellow flags slowed the event and would wave on the 16th lap, as Steve Casebolt came to rest at the top of turn three. He retired to the pits and track clean-up crews tended to fluid left by his racer on the racing surface.

Meanwhile, up front, Owens moved away to score the victory. Madden finished in second, with Bloomquist in third, Mike Marlar in fourth and Eric Wells in fifth.

Chad Ogle, Casey Roberts, Vic Hill, Michael Chilton and Tom Maddox rounded out the top ten.
