Baseball: Garner pitches Dragons past Wesleyan

By staff reports
JEFFERSON -- Ethan Garner struck out nine, walked one, and allowed just one hit in a complete-game effort to lead Jefferson to a thrilling 1-0 win over Wesleyan Thursday.

Garner was able to work around three Jefferson errors and worked out of jams in the second and fourth innings.

The Dragons (9-3) scored only run in the game off Wesleyan starter Christopher Peden in the fifth. Hannon Price singled to lead off and moved to second on a single by Andy Niclaus. After stealing third on a missed third strike, he would score on a Wesleyan error.

It was the only inning in the game the Dragons, who scratched out four hits, had more than one runner on base.

Garner retired the final nine batters to secure the victory.

Micah Carpenter and Max Ford had the other two hits for Jefferson.

The Dragons next will travel to Union County on Tuesday in a Region 8-AA contest.
