By staff reports
GAINESVILLE -- The Chestatee tennis teams split with Johnson Tuesday in Region 8-AAAA action.

The Chestatee boys knocked off the Knights 4-1 while the Johnson girls took an exciting 3-2 win over the Lady War Eagles that went down the final match.

In the girls match, the Lady War Eagles and Lady Knights split the doubles matches as Chestatee's No. 1 doubles team of Haley King and Grace Brown remained undefeated on the season with a 6-0, 6-4 win over Anslie Bass and Marissa Rodriques. Johnson's Aly Groover and Julia Kay Mallory defeated Carolina Gijon and Melanie Smith, 6-3, 7-5 at No. 2 doubles.

With the doubles matches complete and both teams needing to win two of three singles matches to secure the team victory, all three matches stood tied at a set apiece.

Chestatee's Adasery Osorno finished first at No. 3 singles with a 6-2, 5-7, 6-1 win over Daniyal Roshan. Johnson rallied, however, as Ashley Hogan came from a set down to defeat the Lady War Eagles' Lily Kiang at No. 1, 6-7 (8-10), 6-3, 6-3 and the Lady Knights' Zdena Janderova also rallied for a 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 victory over Chestatee's Fernanda Arcaraz in the No. 2 singles match.

In the boys match, Chestatee's Juan Carrion won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 1 singles over Johnson's Jalen Granski. The War Eagles' Tyler Burgess defeated David Le 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2 singles, and playing in his first varsity singles match Chestatee freshman Barron King came from a set down to defeat the Knights' Caleb Herrin 2-6, 6-3, 6-2 at No. 3 singles.

The War Eagles' No. 1 doubles team of Reed Johnson and Austin Passmore won 6-2, 6-2 over the Knights' James Butcher and Erik Dinkel. Johnson avoided the sweep when Man Chung and Josh Butler rallied to beat Chestatee's Logan Gruenenfelder and Ethan Kapiloff, 4-6, 6-4, 6-4.
