ATLANTA -- Even with the news of Gustavo Ayon's season-ending shoulder surgery on Friday, the Hawks may have a deeper roster for their upcoming five-game road trip.
The Hawks, overwhelmed by injuries, have lost 10 of 11 and have dropped to eighth in the Eastern Conference.
Ayon was the team's third center to miss significant time. Al Horford is out for the season, and Pero Antic missed all of February with a stress fracture in his right ankle.
Also, forward Paul Millsap has missed three straight games with a knee injury and won't play at Phoenix on Sunday.
The good news is Antic and Millsap are expected to return during the road trip. Newly signed rookie center Mike Muscala, who impressed teammates in his first practice on Friday, adds more depth.
