DAHLONEGA - Two inmates escaped from the Lumpkin County Detention Center late Tuesday night, and at last report one of them was still on the run.
Sheriff's Office authorities have identified the escapee as Larry LaVaughan Farmer, age 47.
Farmer and another inmate, William Jeffrey Harris, broke through an interior cell wall of the detention center by forcefully removing a toilet from the wall, and made entry into a mechanical area of the facility. Authorities said the pair broke a window and made it outside the facility, then climbed over two fences, one with barbed wire and the other with razor wire.
Harris was injured as he crossed the fences, and he turned himself back in to authorities.
Authorities said Farmer should be considered dangerous. They said he is known to frequent locations in Hall, Habersham and Lumpkin counties.
Farmer was was in Lumpkin County Detention Center on the following charges: Possession of a Controlled Substance(Felony), Attempt to Distribute Methamphetamine(Felony), Trafficking Methamphetamine(Felony), Fleeing/Eluding Police Officer(Felony), Possession of Firearm by Convicted Felon(Felony), Possession of Firearm/Knife during Commission of Crime(Felony), Forgery in the First Degree(Felony), Giving False Name, Address, or Birthdate to Officer, and multiple traffic offenses.
The escape occurred at 11:35 p.m. Tuesday.
