GAINESVILLE - A mechanic working as a subcontractor for an auto repair shop on Dawsonville Highway was killed Tuesday when a vehicle slipped out of gear and pinned him to the ground.

Hall County Sheriff's Deputy Nicole Bailes says that emergency personnel were called to VW Parts and Imports, located near Gainesville Marina, at 12:50 p.m.

Bailes said that investigators were able to determine that a man was assisting a customer with a vehicle in the driveway of the business. That vehicle was on a slight grade and is believed to have slipped out of gear, causing it to roll on top of the unidentified victim.

The victim was pronounced deceased on the scene.

Investigators will have the vehicle checked by a professional mechanic to determine what caused the vehicle to slip out of gear and roll on top of the victim.

The case remains under investigation.
According to Deputy Bailes the man was in his sixties and not from the immediate area. His name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
