Georgia House passes $41B revised budget

By The Associated Press
ATLANTA (AP) The Georgia House has approved a revised $41 billion state spending plan.

House lawmakers voted 163-1 Friday to approve a revised budget for the fiscal year ending June 30, and the bill now heads to the Senate for consideration.

Every year, the governor submits a revised budget plan that reflects changes in revenue or spending by departments.

The revised budget includes more money for hospitals treating poor patients, funds railroad repairs, hires an additional narcotics inspector and trims some spending requested by the state's court system.

Lawmakers must still set a budget for the coming fiscal year starting in July. By law, the state must pass a balanced budget by the end of the legislative session.
