Hiawassee's Hamilton Gardens wins award for community wellness

HIAWASSEE - Curator Paul Hansen of the Hamilton Gardens in Hiawassee was honored recently for his community involvement and work with bringing science to the gardens for children of Towns County Schools.<br /> <br /> The state Health Department, District 2, hosted a day-long symposium geared toward bringing more community awareness to organizations that promote wellness activities in their region. Hamilton Gardens was the only recipient from Towns County and the only Botanical Garden to receive this award in Gainesville-based District 2 which encompasses 13 Northeast Georgia counties.<br /> <br /> Hansen plans to expand his community services this season by including more involvement with the K-12 Science Department in the Towns County School System.
