Cornelia experiences major water main break

CORNELIA - Water service has been restored to affected customers in Ward 4 in Cornelia.

Late Thursday afternoon, the city reported a major water main break in the area of Clarkesville Street and Martin Luther King Jr. Drive near downtown.

Affected customers were being asked to bring their water to a boil before consumption.

"When the water service does come back on, please boil your water [before consumption] for 24 hours," said City Clerk Janie Henderson.

The city says in the future they will notify water customers through area news media when they no longer need to bring their water to a boil before consumption.
