Pickens Co. Church destroyed by fire

By The Associated Press
JASPER, Ga. (AP) -- Members of a north Georgia church are regrouping after a fire destroyed their place of worship over the weekend.

The Rev. Jerry Stewart told WSB-TV ( http://bit.ly/1eyGn7t ) he stopped by the Gospel Outreach Church of North Georgia Saturday evening to turn the heat on before Sunday service.

Stewart says he set the heat to low and was about five minutes down the road when someone called to tell him the church in Jasper was on fire.

Pickens County Fire Chief Bob Howard says firefighters monitored the property until investigators arrived. The cause of the fire is unclear.

The church's roughly 200 members gathered at a community center for Sunday service.
