Registration open for Hall Co government Scholar's Academy

GAINESVILLE - Registration is open for the third annual Hall County Government Scholar's Academy. Registration is on a first-come-first-serve basis and is open to the first 25 participants. The program is free and begins March 18th.

"This is really a nine-week overview of the government here in Hall County,"said spokeswoman Katie Crumley. "Each week, you meet after hours and you spend time with different department heads. For instance, one week you'll be at the courthouse... and the next week you might be at the fire station."

Crumley said this is the third year the program has been in place, and some participants have gone on to run for office.

"The first year we did this, Jeff Stowe was a participant and he turned around and ran for office," said Crumley. "Last year we had two people- Ken Cochran and Tony Beatty who have since being part of the program decided to run for office."
