SNELLVILLE - Gwinnett County fire officials said Friday morning they have found the body of a man who perished in an early morning fire in Snellville.

In a press release, Gwinnett County Fire Capt. Tommy Rutledge said the body of the man was discovered around 8:30 a.m. He said firefighters were in the process of digging out debris from the remains of the burned home when they discovered the body.

The body of the victim will be turned over to the medical examiner's office, according to Rutledge.

Fire crews were called to the home on Lake Drive in Snellville shortly before 2 a.m. Friday.

A man and woman made it out, but a relative who was staying in the basement was last seen going back down the stairs before firefighters arrived. The name of the victim is not being released at this time.
