Demorest man seriously hurt in Habersham wreck

By Rob Moore Reporter
DEMOREST - A Demorest man was flown by air ambulance to Gwinnett Medical Center Monday afternoon after a single-vehicle wreck in Habersham County, said Trooper 1st Class Casey Coffee of Georgia State Patrol Post 7 in Toccoa.

Charles Guy Stephens, 70, was hurt when the 2001 Toyota Tacoma pickup truck he was driving left Georgia Highway 105 (Cannon Bridge Road) near Fairview Elementary School, then struck a culvert and a tree before overturning, Coffee said.

"They felt that he needed to fly out," Coffee said. "The mechanism for injury was there."

Stephens, who was unrestrained, was trapped and had to be extricated by Habersham County Fire Department personnel, Coffee said.
