Rockslide cleared on U.S. 129

By Dean Dyer, WRWH
GAINESVILLE - Transportation officials report that a north Georgia mountain road was shut down for awhile New Year's Day following a rockslide in Union County.

"There was a small rockslide late Wednesday afternoon on S.R. 11 (U.S. Highway 129)." said Teri Pope, communications officer with the Georgia Department of Transportation. "The road was closed for about an hour near its intersection with SR 180 for the clean-up.

"There is still rubble on the shoulder of the road but the traffic lanes are open," Pope said. "GDOT crews will finish cleaning up the area after the current rains moves out of the area."
