Hall Co. investigators make another arrest in online sex sting

By B.J. Williams News Director
GAINESVILLE - For the third time this month, Hall County investigators have made an arrest in a undercover sex sting operation.

Conner Reid Johnson of Gainesville was the latest suspect to be charged with enticing a child for indecent purposes, according to Hall County Sheriff's Sgt. Stephen Wilbanks. As with the other two cases, the 21-year-old Johnson arranged to meet with what he thought would be an underage female via a Craigslist ad.

"There is, I think, a little bit of a misconception out there that we are out here placing ads trying to draw these people in when, in fact, what our investigators are doing is patrolling these websites and responding to ads that the individuals have already placed," said Wilbanks.

Wilbanks said investigators are very clear when they respond to the ads, so the suspects believe they will be meeting underage females for the purpose of having a sexual encounter.

Wilbanks said Johnson agreed to meet his online contact and was arrested when he arrived at the designated meeting place.

Johnson was booked into the Hall County Jail, and he was scheduled to have a court appearance Wednesday.
