BUFORD -- Buford scored nine runs in the first inning and then held on for a 17-9 victory in five innings over Banks County Tuesday in Region 7-AAA action.
In the big nine-run first, Buford pounded out six hits and got help with two Banks County errors. The inning was highlighted by a two-run home run from Remington Hasty.
Banks County would get back in the game with an eight-run third inning. The Lady Leopards banged out six hits off starter Emily Crocker to go with one Buford error to trim the lead to 9-8.
The Lady Wolves would answer right back with seven runs in the bottom of the inning, punctuated by a grand slam from Drew Puckett for a 16-8 lead. They would add a run in the fourth on a sacrifice fly by Tessa Daniels,,
Banks County added a run in the top of the fifth but it wasn't enough to keep the game going.
Crocker got the win for Buford allowing six hits and eight runs in three innings. Petyon Wolfe would pitch the final two innings for the Lady Wolves yielding just one run while scattering six hits.
