By Derreck Booth Anchor/reporter
FEDERATION OF SAINT KITTS AND NEVIS - A Gainesville woman, going to school in the Caribbean, died last Saturday, apparently drowning on a birthday outing with friends during the afternoon.

According to a news release from the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force, Myriam Bissainthe, 36, was with two friends at Cockleshell Beach celebrating her birthday.

She was alone in the water close to shore, according to police. A swimmer later saw her floating and drifting and rescued her.

According to the release, a doctor who was in the area tried to revive her, but was unsuccessful.

Police said an autopsy would be performed at a later date.

Bissainthe had been living at St. Christopher Club, Frigate Bay, according to police and was a Windsor student. Windsor University School of Medicine is a private medical school located in Cayon, Saint Kitts.

Saint Kitts and Nevis are in the Leeward Islands chain in the West Indies.
