GAINESVILLE - DICK'S Sporting Goods is announcing it will open its big new 50,000 square foot store in Gainesville's Lakeshore Mall 'in the fall of 2013' and the fall of 2013 is nearly here.
In a company news release Thursday, DICK'S promises "To celebrate the new store in Gainesville with a three-day weekend of grand opening festivities with a variety of giveaways and special appearances in-store. Additional details on the grand opening festivities will be available in the coming weeks."
According to mall Marketing Manager, Kirsten Boettcher, DICK'S has not said exactly when that grand opening weekend will be yet, but it's getting close.
"The retailers who are in the Mall right now are pretty satisfied with how the construction has gone," Boettcher said. "Our faithful customers continued shopping with us; the parking lot's been a little chopped up obviously because of the construction."
Boettcher expects the arrival of DICK'S as a major retailer will be positive. She believes the store's popularity is going to drive a lot of people to the Mall. The Mall,owned by Garrison Investment Group of New York City, and managed by Urban Retail Properties of Chicago, is undergoing a lot of external change of appearance as part of Garrison's $20-million investment.
"Our owners have put a lot of money into re-developing the Mall," Boettcher said." All new landscaping is going in that you will start to see in the next couple of weeks. You will see our brand new pylon signs that will give the Mall a very updated look. We're very excited, the Mall's going to look great."
DICK'S expects to offer full-line sports and fitness specialty equipment,apparel and footwear. The Company also owns and operates Golf Galaxy, LLC, a golf specialty retailer. As of August 3, 2013, the Company operated 527 DICK'S Sporting Goods stores in 44 states, 81 Golf Galaxy stores in 30 states, and eCommerce websites and catalog operations for DICK'S Sporting Goods and Golf Galaxy.
DICK'S also promises to support Gainesville area school athletic and outdoor programs through its Community Marketing and Community Youth Sports programs.
