North Georgia women's soccer announces 2013 signing class

DAHLONEGA -- The University of North Georgia women's soccer team has announced its new signing class for the upcoming fall 2013 season. Head coach Chris Adams added 13 players to his squad and is hoping to build off last season's record of 15-5-2 and second consecutive NCAA Division II post season appearance. The incoming class includes 10 traditional freshmen and three transfers.

"As a staff we are extremely excited about the depth that this class provides us," stated head coach Chris Adams. "It is a compatible mix of freshmen and transfers that should blend well with the strong core of returners we currently have."

The Nighthawks will open the 2013 slate on September 6 with a neutral site competition against Florida Institute of Technology set for a 5:00 kickoff at Valdosta State University.

#0 Rachel Allred, Freshman, Goalkeeper / Mill Creek
Allred had a big responsibility between the posts for her high school and club teams. She has represented for NSA and UFA club teams and Mill Creek High School. Allred helped Mill Creek to the state quarterfinals in 2012 and just became region champions in 2013. In 2012 she had a total of 11 shut outs, 83 saves and 1.0 goal against average. With this record Allred was nominated for 2nd team All-Region. With consistent performances throughout her high school career she was voted the most valuable defender in 2010 and 2011.


#3 Lindsey Freese, Senior, Defender / Forsyth Central (Emmanuel College)
Lindsey is finishing up her career at North Georgia after transferring from Emmanuel College in spring 2013.Freese played four years at Forsyth Central High School becoming captain within her senior year and honored with best defensive player award. She then began a college career at Emmanuel College where she was named team MVP in years 2011 and 2012 along with NAIA All-Academic team in 2012. Before the 2012 season Freese competed in the summer for amateur team Georgia Revolution.

#5 Amy Lee, Sophomore, Defender / Brookstone
Lee is about to begin her first fall season with North Georgia after joining the team in the spring. She was previously at Columbus State University where she was part of the 2010 PBC Championship and Conference Tournament winning team. She is joining the North Georgia soccer program and will be a teammate of her sister Becca Lee, who is a junior. Lee competed for Brookstone High School for a year and then for Columbus High School for her last three years. During her high school career Lee went all the way to four region championships and was awarded with All-Bi-City and All-Region team and best defensive player for seasons 2009 and 2010. Lee played her club soccer at CFC Redstar for 10 years.

#7 Jessica Dacey, Freshman, Forward / Collins Hill
Dacey has competed at the highest club level for AFU ECNL team, coached by Mark Mackain. She has helped her high school to become region champions in 2011 advancing to the Elite Eight of the state championships. The following year Dacey contributed again to her high school's success by reaching the final four and being ranked second in the state for 5AAAAA. Within her high school career she had recorded over 26 goals. Her senior year saw her make score sheet 12 times as well being the provider with eight assists.

#10 Mollie Arrendale, Freshman, Forward / Greater Atlanta Christian
Arrendale joins the North Georgia Nighthawks from the elite club Tophat who were the A level champions the past two years. She also competed for Greater Atlanta Christian School and finished her senior year on the highest note contributing 12 goals and 11 assists for the season. She received Gwinnet's Daily post All-County 2nd team and All-Region 6AA 2nd team. Arrendale led her team to region champions in 2010 as well as reaching the state final four. In 2011 they were the State Runner-up before improving the following year and becoming 2012 State Champions. Her final year with GAC saw them clinch the regional title and become state runners up. Mollie also completed her career as the record holder for most games played with a total of 79 out of 84. The highest ranking the school achieved within the 2013 season was 2nd in the State and 8th in the NSCAA national poll.


#11 Megan Gil, Freshman, Defender / Mill Creek High School
Gil has played at the highest level in Georgia for GSA Phoenix ECNL team, coached by Campbell Chapman. She achieved high school honors for Mill Creek within every year she competed, in 2011 she was awarded Scholar-Athlete of the Year, in 2012 she was voted Most Valuable Defensive Player recording three goals for the season and making the All-Region first team for Region 7 AAAAA. Megan helped her high school team to the final four state play-offs in 2011 and the quarterfinals in 2012.

#12 Jacey Ramey, Freshman, Defender / Flowery Branch
Ramey has played her club soccer at Georgia Rush and competed for Flowery Branch High School. She provides a considerable amount of versatility on the field and has proven her value for both teams. Ramey was given captaincy for both club and high school and has lead by example in many areas. The year that Ramey was awarded Defensive Player of the Year for the Georgia Rush she was also a consistent goal scorer for high school notching 17 goals within the season. Her consistency in front of goal helped Flowery Branch to win the Region 8AAAA championship and went all the way to the sweet sixteen in the state tournament. The following year Flowery Branch repeated their success by becoming Region Champions once again. Ramey received individual honors and was awarded Flowery Branch Wendy's Heisman award. She has also displayed her talents on the basketball court breaking two school records for career steals and career rebounds, becoming and All-Region player and 2013 MVP. Ramey lead her team to four straight state tournament appearances in 3 classifications. She has represented herself well off the field offering her services in a variety of clubs and societies.

#13 Jessica Allen, Freshman, Defender / Grayson
Allen has been a valuable member for every team she has competed on. She has represented at the highest club level in Georgia for GSA Phoenix ECNL team, coached by Campbell Chapman. Allen was also a part of the Region III Olympic Development Program for three years becoming a regional champion in 2011. During her time at GSA she had become a two-time club state champion and a valuable contributor to the team. During her high school career Allen has competed in four state play-offs, was awarded Scholar Athlete of the year and most valuable Defender of the Year for all four years. She was also nominated as a three-time All-County and three-time All-Region player, as well as the Region Defender of the Year. Allen continued her streak by being honored as a Gwinnet County's Super-Six selection in 2012 and 2013 seasons. Allen has also shown her hard work and dedication off the field by being recognized with the Community Service Award all four years. She finished her senior year strong by graduating with honors.

#16 Laura Diaz, Senior, Midfield/Forward / Norcross
Diaz brings in maturity and experience along with versatility. She played her club soccer at Norcross for several years and was a four-year varsity starter at Duluth High School. Diaz was honored with the Coach's Award and became a key player within the forward line. She transfers after studying for three years at Georgia State with a major in Psychology and minor in Pre-Med. Diaz has been a member of clubs and societies and has been honored for her excellence in the classroom.

#17 Olivia Hall, Freshman, Defender / Peachtree Ridge
Hall has competed at the highest club level for AFU, ECNL and Top Hat. She also played her high school soccer at Peachtree Ridge who earned a region championship in 2012. Hall can play anywhere across the backline and her adaptability helped her earn the All-County award for in 2010. Hall boasts a great reputation within the academic honors department and proved to be a good ambassador to the school with her participation in variety of clubs and societies.


#22 Jordan Draughon, Sophomore, Defender, Loganville, Ga. / Loganville (UNC-Greensboro)
Draughon makes her way to North Georgia after playing a year at UNC Greensboro where she competed in 11 games. She was a four-year starter at Loganville High School and was nominated as captain her junior and senior year. Within her high school career Draughon was a two-time All-County selection in 2008 and 2010, three time All-Region second team selection from 2008-2010, team MVP in 2010 and 2011 and All-Region in 2011.

#23 Mariah Dickey, Sophomore, Forward / Collins Hill (University of Georgia)
Dickey enters her first year on North Georgia soil after spending a year at University of Georgia. Mariah saw action in 11 games for the Bulldogs and scored the game winner against rival Clemson University. Mariah attended Collins Hill High School and played at the highest level in club for ECNL team GSA.

#27 Alex Bowen, Freshman, Defender / Parkview
Bowen started her career at GSA club where she was a R3PL state champion and a semi-finalist within her two year stint. She then moved to Tophat Athena A and became a regular season champion in the season of 2011-2012 and also a state cup semifinalist that season. Tophat held onto their championship crown for the following season of 2012-2013.
