Jewelers chase, fight with robbery suspects

By The Associated Press
ALPHARETTA - Authorities say two suspects got more than they bargained for during a robbery attempt at an Alpharetta jewelry store.

According to Atlanta-area media, the duo was after a big diamond ring, but left battered and empty handed after the jewelers inside chased them and fought with them. It happened shortly after 5 p.m. Tuesday at Sabri Guven Fine Jewelry on Haynes Bridge Road.

Jeweler Tony Guven says one of the men pushed his father down and he was trying to grab the diamond, but his dad ran after him. Tony Guven said he jumped in the fray when the man pulled a gun on his father and fired a shot. Police said a customer also helped to subdue the suspect.

Alpharetta police say the other suspect ran away, and they're continuing to search for him.
