Morning fire does heavy damage to Dacula home

DACULA - Gwinnett County firefighters said a Tuesday morning blaze in Dacula did heavy structural damage to a house, but no was injured.

According to fire Lt. Colin Rhoden, the call came around 9:50 a.m. to the house in the 2700 block of Wilding Green Lane.

First responders were initially able to make entry to fight the blaze.

"They were extinguishing the fire, but it was also growing on the upper floors, so they were pulled out by command, and then they started doing an exterior attack," Rhoden said.

He said firefighters were able to get the blaze under control in less than an hour and keep it from spreading to other homes.

Four residents, two adults and two children, were home at the time of the fire, but were able to escape with their pets. While they will be displaced by the blaze, Rhoden said they didn't need American Red Cross assistance.

The initial call from the residents reported a living room fire with sparks coming from an outlet.

"As far as our investigators getting on scene, because of the amount of damage, at this point the investigation is undetermined and under investigation," Rhoden said.

The house sustained heavy structural damage. Radiant heat melted some of the vinyl siding on the house next door, according to Rhoden.
