Firefighters battle house blaze on Cook Road

By B.J. Williams
GAINESVILLE - Hall County firefighters said no one was hurt, but fire was burning through an approximately 6000 square foot house in the 3400 block of Cook Road Monday morning.

Fire Chief David Kimbrell said a nearby resident phoned in the fire call around 9:40 a.m.

The house was about 80 percent involved in flames as firefighters continued their attack before noon.

"Due to the volume of fire, firefighters made a defensive attack on the structure."

While the weather cooperated and there were no exposure risks, Kimbrell said another factor was making the fight more difficult.

"Their is some difficulty in fighting the fire because there's no fire hydrants in the area, so we're having to use several trucks to shuttle water in to extinguish the fire," Kimbrell said.

Kimbrell said an investigator had arrived to look for the cause. He said no one was home when the blaze broke out, but the homeowner arrived on scene about 40 minutes into the fire fight.

Cook Road is in the Lynncliff Drive area off of Davis Bridge Road.

Kimbrell expected firefighters to remain on the scene into the afternoon hours.
