Jefferson's Mike Beatty leaving state DCA

By Ken Stanford Contributing Editor
ATLANTA - Mike Beatty of Jefferson is stepping down as commissioner for the state Department of Community Affairs, effective August 1.

Gretchen Corbin will succeed him, according to an announcement Thursday from Gov. Nathan Deal. Corbin is leaving her position as deputy commissioner at the Department of Economic Development to take the DCA post.

Beatty is leaving DCA to serve as president and chief executive officer of Great Promise Partnership, Inc., a nonprofit offering workforce development opportunity for Georgia. He was appointed commissioner of the Georgia Department of Community Affairs by then-Gov. Sonny Perdue in June 2003 and reappointed by Deal in January 2011.

Before than, Beatty worked as an educator, businessman, and member of the Georgia General Assembly.
