Corrections Fire Services celebrates 50 years

By Rob Moore Reporter
ALTO - The Georgia Department of Corrections celebrated a milestone in public safety on Wednesday: 50 years of the Georgia Department of Corrections Fire Services.

The program started in 1963 with the fire station that since has been named for Chief Richard H. "Buddy" Brooks at Lee Arrendale State Prison in Alto.

The celebration culminated six months of preparation by a committee that traced the history of the department from its inception to present.

Georgia Department of Corrections Commissioner Brian Owens, Public Service Commissioner Lauren "Bubba" McDonald, and others spoke of the importance of the program.

Watch for complete story and photos of the event.
