Forsyth planners to consider 500+ new homes

By Ken Stanford Contributing Editor
CUMMING - Plans are in the works for two projects in Forsyth County that would bring more than 500 new homes to the county.

Forsyth, like other fast-growing counties in the state, has seen a sharp decrease in the number of new homes over the past few years during the housing downturn.

One of the applications to be considered by the county planning commission May 28 is a rezoning request for 61.5 acres on Majors Road near Castleberry Road. SR Homes, LLC, has plans for 125 residential lots on the tract and is requesting that the property be rezoned from Master Planned District (MPD) to Single Family Residential (RES4). The applicant also is seeking variances that would reduce the distance between each structure to eleven feet and reduce "the exterior yard 20 feet to allow a 30-foot exterior yard setback."

The other matter involves plans for 378 attached housing units on 83.6 acres on Daves Creek Drive across from Daves Creek Lane. Daves Creek, LLC, is asking that the tract be rezoned from Agricultural (A1) to Multi-Family Residential (RES6).

The county planning commission is scheduled to consider both requests on May 28 at 6:30 in the commission meeting room in the Forsyth County Administration Building.
