JEFFERSON - Firefighters out of Jackson County responded to two fire calls within two minutes of one another early Monday morning.
The first fire did minor damage to a warehouse/industrial complex at 1000 Valentine Industrial Parkway in Jefferson.
According to Jackson County Emergency Services Director Steve Nichols, a piece of equipment in the building's vacuum room caught fire. Nichols listed the cause as accidental.
Shortly after that call, firefighters responded to a duplex fire at 758 Old Commerce Road Extension in the Athens area of the county.
Firefighters contained the blaze to one bedroom. Nichols said smoke detectors awakened the occupants. He said one person suffered smoke inhalation but was treated on the scene.
Nichols said investigators believe the fire was electrical and caused moderate damage to the building. American Red Cross workers were assisting the residents.
The fire calls came at 1:30 a.m. and 1:32 a.m.
