Videos: GHS boys, Dawson girls prepped for title tilts in Macon

The Gainesville boys basketball team has not won a state championship since 1984; the Dawson County girls have never won a state title. And both programs are more than ready to end those droughts this weekend in Macon.

The Red Elephants (23-9) will put their 15-game win streak on the line at 8:45 p.m. today against Miller Grove (29-3) in a Class AAAAA finale that can be heard live on WDUN AM 550/102.9 FM.

Gainesville has won all four state playoff games by an average of 1.75 points per contest, while Miller Grove -- a four-time defending state champ -- is coming off a 34-point margin of victory in their semifinal.

Don't expect that to cow the Red Elephants, however, who enter the contest with plenty of self-belief.

Meanwhile, the Dawson County girls (27-5) will tangle with St. Pius (29-3) at 3 p.m. Saturday in Macon for the Class AAA crown.

The Lady Tigers know it will not be an easy task to contain Lady Golden Lions stars Asia Durr and Jasmine Carter, but Dawson County's close-knit team believes it is ready to handle whatever comes its way in Macon.
