Basketball: Region 8-AAAAA honors announced, feature Red Elephants, Lady Falcons

The Gainesville boys and Flowery Branch girls played their way to the No. 1 seeds for Region 8-AAAAA and were honored for their achievements when the 8-AAAAA All-Region honors were announced Thursday.

Lady Falcons senior Tavia Sykes was named girls player of the year, while coach Hazel Hall was also coach of the year. Jacy Ramey and Marissa Ivey were also named All-Region players.

Meanwhile, Gainesville senior Shaquan Cantrell was named boys region player of the year while Todd Cottrell was honored as boys coach of the year.
