8-AAAAA tournament: Lady Falcons soar back into state, region semis

BETHLEHEM -- The Flowery Branch girls basketball team is headed back to the state tournament for the fourth straight season after dominating Apalachee 60-28 on Tuesday in the Region 8-AAAAA tournament in Bethlehem.

The Lady Falcons (22-3) opened up a 16-4 lead in their first contest of the tournament, sprinting past the Lady Wildcats in their home gym.

Tavia Sykes scored 14 points to pace Flowery Branch on a night when eight different players scored for the Lady Falcons.

Marissa Ivey and Jacy Ramey also scored nine points apiece for Flowery Branch, while Maddie Hetzel added eight points in the win.

The Lady Falcons will play again at 7 p.m. Friday in the 8-AAAAA semifinals against the winner of the Salem vs. Heritage match-up.
