GHS parade, reception ready to roll Wednesday

GAINESVILLE - The parade and reception honoring Gainesville High School's state championship football team will take place Wednesday afternoon, one week after the celebration was dampened by winter thunderstorms.

All Gainesville City Schools will dismiss one hour early on Wednesday, February 6, to enable faculty and students to participate in the events.

Details are as follows:

3:55 p.m. Parade leaves GHS to travel to Bobby Gruhn Field

Spectator locations: Oak Street, Academy Street from the intersection of Oak Street and Green Street, and Green Street from the intersection of Jesse Jewell to City Park Stadium

*NOTE: Gainesville police say no roads will be closed for the parade, although rolling roadblocks will be in place as the parade proceeds along its designated route.

4:00- 4:20 p.m. Parade travels to Bobby Gruhn Field

*4:20- 6:00 p.m. The public is invited to meet the players and coaches on Bobby Gruhn Field. Recognition remarks will be at 5:00 p.m.

*The reception will be held at Bobby Gruhn Field.

Entrance to the reception at Bobby Gruhn Field will be through the "home side" gates on the north side of the stadium. The lower parking lot will be reserved for parade vehicles and handicapped parking.
