Barrow Co. man killed in pedestrian accident

By Staff
ATHENS - A Barrow County man who was hit by a tractor trailer on the west side of Athens Friday night has died from his injuries.

A report in the Athens-Banner Herald said 28-year-old Roger Phillip Glass III of Statham was walking along Atlanta Highway around 10 p.m. Friday when he was hit. Glass was taken to Athens Regional Medical Center where he died from his injuries Saturday afternoon.

The newspaper reported said the driver of the rig told police he was unable to avoid striking Glass when he stepped into the roadway. Police do not expect to file charges against the truck driver.

Police said they are awaiting results of autopsy and toxicology reports to determine if alcohol or drugs might have contributed to the fatal accident.
