Boys basketball: Davenport soars again despite East Hall defeat

By staff
GRACEVILLE, Fla. -- Kyvon Davenport has already made for himself around northeast Georgia.

On Friday, the East Hall boys basketball standout started showing other teams around the nation why.

Davenport scored 25 points, pulled down 22 rebounds and blocked eight shots -- though his effort wasn't enough for the Vikings, who lost 76-71 to Rutherford High (Panama City, Fla.) in the Tiger Classic in Graceville, Fla.

Jacquen Hopkins and Caleb Holtzclaw each scored 11 points to help East Hall stay within striking distance of third-ranked Rutherford for the entire game.

The Vikings (5-5) were tied 66-66 with 2:00 remaining, Rutherford pulled away to clinch the win.

Davenport's double-double was his eighth of the season -- his third performance with two stats in the 20s.

East Hill will Marianna High at 1:30 p.m. Saturday in the Tiger Classic.
