LAWRENCEVILLE - A Lawrenceville woman on her way to work at the Gwinnett Medical Center was struck and killed as she crossed Duluth Highway Thursday morning.
Lawrenceville police identified the victim as 58-year-old Shelia Smith. They said she was crossing the Highway in front of a Quik Trip store at West Pike Street.
The driver of the vehicle that hit her was 25-year-old Barry Carter of Lawrenceville.
Authorities have not filed any charges in the incident. A police report said alcohol does not appear to be a factor.
