Cleveland stalls involvement in park funding

By Dean Dyer WRWH Radio
CLEVELAND - The Cleveland City Council has yet to jump onboard as far as providing financial support for a proposed event park the county is building in the city behind the White County Courthouse.

White County Commissioners have called on the city to join the effort, because of the park's location and the benefit it will provide to city businesses, both as an event venue and with additional parking.

During the Cleveland City Council meeting Monday night, council members entertained a request from the county to provide $150,000 toward that project.

City Clerk Connie Tracas advised the council that $77,400 is what the city legally could spend out of the road money on the park project.

"Anything else you'll have to take out of the general fund," Tracas said.

After some discussion, Councilman Edward Young said, "I'd like to wait until next week to make a move on this, get some better costs brought in."

No action was taken by the council on the county's request.
