Gwinnett SWAT, crisis team called after woman barricades herself in apartment

By Alyson Shields Reporter
LILBURN - Gwinnett Police SWAT negotiated with a distraught woman for almost three hours this morning.

A woman called the police around 7:30 this morning about her distraught daughter, who had barricaded herself in her apartment.

Police officers found the 20-something daughter with a gun to her head at the Park Crossing Apartments, and they in turn called SWAT and Crisis Negotiation squads. However, before SWAT arrived, the woman fired a shot. Police are unsure if the shot was a warning shot or accidental, but determined it was not directed at police or another person.

The woman finally emerged from her apartment at 11:15 and was taken in to custody by police without incident. The woman is currently in the Gwinnett County Jail, and while charges are pending, officers said in a release the primary focus will "be towards making efforts to help her get mental health assistance."
