Court rules for governor, Kia in open records case

By The Associated Press
ATLANTA (AP) The Georgia Supreme Court has ruled in favor of the governor and Kia Motors Manufacturing in an open records dispute having to do with hiring records.

A Fulton County Superior Court judge had refused to dismiss a lawsuit filed by four people who said the state helped the auto manufacturer create a screening and hiring process designed to exclude union workers.

The four challenged the state's refusal to give them access to records detailing the state's involvement in the hiring process. They also argued that an amendment to the state's Open Records Act specifically targeted their lawsuit and was unconstitutional.

In a unanimous opinion published Monday, the high court reversed the lower court decision and ruled the change in the law applies to this case and its application is constitutional.
