Most of central, north Ga. now under freeze warning, wind advisory

By Ken Stanford Contributing Editor
ATLANTA (AP) -- A freeze warning has now been issued for most of central and northern Georgia as arctic air approaches the region. A wind advisory has also been issued.

The National Weather Service said the warning will be in effect from 5 p.m. Tuesday until 10 a.m. Wednesday. A wind advisory has also been issued. (See separate posting.)

Forecasters project that temperatures will fall into the low 30s late Tuesday afternoon and dip into the low 20s overnight. They also say the chances of snow have greatly diminished.

Brisk winds, gusting to 35-40 miles-an-hour at times, will result in wind chill readings dropping into the teens by Tuesday night.

The affected area includes Blairsville, Cornelia, Gainesville, Athens, Atlanta, Rome, Dalton and surroundings areas - and extends as far south as Macon, Americus, and Columbus.
