19 students injured in collapse of inflatable slide at W. Ga. school

By The Associated Press
LAGRANGE, Ga. (AP) -- Authorities say more than a dozen children were injured when a 24-foot inflatable slide collapsed at their west Georgia elementary school.

Troup County Sheriff's Deputy Stewart Smith says two children were airlifted to a hospital in Atlanta following the Friday afternoon collapse at Rosemont Elementary School in LaGrange. A school spokeswoman says one student has since been released and officials are investigating what happened.

A West Georgia Medical Center spokeswoman says seven children brought to the hospital in LaGrange have been treated for minor injuries and released.

Smith says up to 19 children were injured. Most were treated at the scene and released to their parents.

Smith says the slide was in the gym and part of a reward for students.
