Trae Golden ruled eligible to play for Tech hoops

By The Associated Press
ATLANTA -- The NCAA has ruled Trae Golden, who played the last three seasons at Tennessee, is eligible to play in the 2013-14 season at Georgia Tech.

Golden, a guard, is a native of Powder Springs, Ga., who attended McEachern High School. He transferred to Georgia Tech this summer to be closer to his family.

Coach Brian Gregory announced Thursday the NCAA approved the waiver of the year-in-residency requirement for transfers. The 6-foot-2 Golden averaged 9.7 points and 3.6 assists while playing in 96 career games, including 58 starts, for Tennessee.

Golden averaged 12.1 points and 3.9 assists as a junior last season. He set a career high by averaging 13.6 points per game as a sophomore.
