Ga. Power sets meetings in Gainesville, other cities on rate hike

By The Associated Press
ATLANTA - Consumer advocates say town halls are scheduled throughout the state as Georgia Power looks to raise rates for residential customers.

Georgia Watch announced this week that Georgia Power is hosting meetings before the Georgia Public Service Commission decides whether to approve rate increases in mid-December.

A meeting at the Coastal Georgia Center in Savannah is scheduled for Oct. 17. A town hall at the Coca-Cola Space and Science Center is set for Oct. 21.

A third meeting is set for Oct. 29 at the Brenau Downtown Center in Gainesville, and a fourth is set for Oct. 30 at the University of Georgia Chapel in Athens.

Each meeting runs from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

Another public comment period is scheduled Nov. 5 and 6 during a hearing in Atlanta.
