Democrat Nunn reports a $1.7 million campaign haul

By The Associated Press
ATLANTA (AP) -- Democrat Michelle Nunn says she has raised $1.7 million in the first 10 weeks of her U.S. Senate campaign.

Nunn announced the total in an email to her supporters on Tuesday. Nunn says she more than 6,700 individual donors have contributed. A campaign aide says she'll file a detailed report with the Federal Elections Commission next week.

Republican Sen. Saxby Chambliss is not seeking a third term, and Nunn gives national Democrats perhaps their best shot to pick up a GOP seat in 2014. Her father is former U.S. Sen. Sam Nunn.

Republican Rep. Jack Kingston, meanwhile, says he raised more than $800,000 for the third consecutive quarter. He's been the leading fundraiser in a crowded GOP primary field.

Chambliss spent $15.7 million during his 2008 re-election year.
