Softball: Bush shuts down Dawson Co. in Buford win

By staff
BUFORD -- The Buford softball team rode a near-perfect outing from pitcher Bria Bush to an 8-0 win over Dawson County in five innings on Tuesday in Buford.

Only an infield hit by Dawson County shortstop Joy Lewis in the first inning prevented a perfect game for Bush (9-1), who allowed just one hit, while striking out nine with no walks allowed.

Offensively Buford's seniors led the way on senior night with Noah Sudderth, Niki Cook, and Morgan Walters sparking the Lady Wolves at the plate.

Buford (24-1, 13-0 Region 7-AAA) put the game out of reach in the fourth inning, as Baylee Sexton reached on an infield single and then stole second base. Cook tripled to deep left field, easily scoring Sexton, before Cook scored on a fielder's choice from Remington Hasty. Back-to-back errors by Dawson County then loaded the bases and Sudderth responded with a two-run single.

Cook finished the game 4-for-4 with a triple, RBI, two runs scored and a stolen base, while Sudderth went 1-for-3 with two RBI. Walters also finished 2-for-3, with an RBI and run scored, while Daniels was 2-for-4 with a double, RBI and one run scored.

Buford travels to North Hall on Thursday for its regular season finale.
